Susan Sarandon — Biography

Susan Abigail Sarandon, born on October 4, 1946, is a prominent American actress with an impressive array of awards to her name, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She has also received nominations for a Daytime Emmy Award, six Primetime Emmy Awards, and nine Golden Globe Awards. In 2002, she was celebrated with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Sarandon's acting journey began with her participation in the drama film Joe (1970), the soap opera A World Apart (1970–1971), and the television movie F. Scott Fitzgerald and 'The Last of the Belles' (1974). She gained significant recognition for her iconic portrayal of Janet Weiss in the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). Sarandon achieved critical acclaim and an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Dead Man Walking (1995). She has also received Oscar nominations for her performances in Atlantic City (1980), Thelma & Louise (1991), Lorenzo's Oil (1992), and The Client (1994). Her television work has earned her six Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including guest appearances on Friends (2001) and Malcolm in the Middle (2002), as well as significant roles such as Janet Good in HBO’s You Don't Know Jack (2010), Doris Duke in Bernard and Doris (2008), and Bette Davis in the FX miniseries Feud (2017). Known for her social and political activism, Sarandon was named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1999 and received the Action Against Hunger Humanitarian Award in 2006. In 2022, she became an ambassador for the HALO Trust, the largest humanitarian mine clearance organization. As of February 2025, Susan has garnered 1.8 million followers on Instagram.
