About Tessa Virtue

Tessa Jane McCormick Virtue, born May 17, 1989, is a celebrated Canadian figure skater who specialized in ice dance. Her career, notably alongside partner Scott Moir, is marked by unparalleled success. They achieved Olympic gold in 2010 and 2018, adding a silver medal from the 2014 Games. Their dominance extended to the World Championships, where they secured three titles in 2010, 2012, and 2017. They also claimed three Four Continents championships in 2008, 2012, and 2017, and the Grand Prix Final title in the 2016-17 season. Domestically, Virtue and Moir were an astounding eight-time Canadian National champions between 2008 and 2010, and again from 2012 to 2014, and in 2017-18. Their junior careers were equally impressive, highlighted by a World Junior title and Junior Grand Prix gold in 2006.

The pair's Olympic achievements also include team gold in 2018 and team silver in 2014. This remarkable collection of accolades made them the most decorated ice dance team in Canadian history and the most decorated Olympic figure skaters ever. Widely recognized as one of the greatest ice dance duos of all time, they are the only pair to achieve a "Super Slam," winning every major junior and senior international competition. Virtue and Moir once held the world record for the defunct original dance.

Their partnership began when they were just seven and nine years old in 1997. By 2004, they were Canadian junior champions, and they rose to become Canada's premier ice dance team in 2007. Their early senior success included World silver in 2008 and bronze in 2009, where they made history as the first ice dance team to receive a perfect 10.0 for a program component score under the current judging system. In 2010, they broke a 34-year European streak, becoming the first North American ice dancers to win Olympic gold. They remain the youngest ice dance team to win an Olympic title, the first to win gold in their Olympic debut, and the first to achieve Olympic gold on home ice.

Following their initial Olympic triumph, Virtue and Moir continued their reign, winning World titles in 2010 and 2012, and World silver in 2011 and 2013. They added Olympic silver in the individual and team events in 2014. After a two-year hiatus, they returned in the fall of 2016, embarking on an undefeated season that
