Tuba Buyukustun — Biography
Born in Istanbul on July 5, 1982, Tuba Büyüküstün carries a dual heritage, with her mother's family hailing from Crimea and her father's from Crete. Her academic journey included studies at Istanbul Private Doğuş Schools and a degree in Stage Decorations and Costume Design from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. During her university years, she appeared in commercials. Upon graduation, her acting career was launched by director Tomris Giritlioğlu.
Büyüküstün's television acting debut occurred in 2003, appearing in the final four episodes of Kanal D's Sultan Makamı. She also featured in a music video for Kenan Doğulu's song Tanımışsın. In 2004, her portrayal of "Zarife" in Çağan Irmak's Kanal D series Çemberimde Gül Oya garnered significant attention. That same year, she starred as "Gülizar" in the TV movie of the same name, directed by Cemal Şan, earning her the Best Actress award at the Serbia-Montenegro International TV Festival Bar.
Her career reached a new height in 2005 with a leading role alongside Bülent İnal and Sinan Tuzcu in Aydın Bulut's Kanal D series Ihlamurlar Altında. In the same year, she ventured into cinema with Çağan Irmak, playing "Aysun" in the film Babam ve Oğlum. Her filmography expanded in 2006 with a role in Ömer Faruk Sorak's Sınav, where she shared the screen with Jean-Claude Van Damme.
In 2007, Büyüküstün took on a co-lead role in the Kanal D series Asi, filmed in Antakya and directed by Cevdet Mercan, alongside Murat Yıldırım and Çetin Tekindor. During this period, her popularity surged across the Middle East as Çemberimde Gül Oya, Ihlamurlar Altında, and Asi achieved widespread broadcast on Arab television, playing a crucial part in the international distribution of Turkish dramas.
