About Willow Shields

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on June 1, 2000, Willow Shields is the younger sibling to twin sister Autumn Shields and older brother River Shields, both of whom are also actors. Her initial foray into acting came in 2008 with a narration role in the short film Las Vegas New Mexico 1875. That same year, she made her television debut with a guest spot on the USA network series In Plain Sight, filmed in her hometown. This was followed by an appearance on the horror anthology series R.L. Stine's the Haunting Hour in 2010 and a supporting part in the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie Beyond the Blackboard in 2011. Her performances led to her casting as Primrose Everdeen, the younger sister of the protagonist Katniss Everdeen, in the film adaptation of The Hunger Games (2012), a role she reprised in subsequent installments of the series based on Suzanne Collins' novels.

Willow, who is of English, German, and Swedish heritage, is a homeschooled student with a passion for history and reading. She enjoys creating art, particularly artist trading cards, and has a fondness for photography, owning numerous cameras. She is known for her love of animals, including dogs and chickens. Shields holds the distinction of being the youngest contestant to ever compete on Dancing With The Stars. Her favorite routines on the show were inspired by "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Hunger Games." Among her preferred films are Donnie Darko, Across the Universe, The Breakfast Club, Moonrise Kingdom, Room, and Little Miss Sunshine. She maintains a close friendship with Jennifer Lawrence, her co-star from The Hunger Games.

Reflecting on her work, Shields expressed enthusiasm for her role in "The Haunting Hour," describing it as fun and appreciating the opportunity to play a complex character. She noted the significant personal growth experienced while portraying Primrose Everdeen, developing a deep connection with the character across the film series. Her childhood fear of the movie Poltergeist, particularly the scene with Carol Anne, is a testament to its impact. Shields shared that her and her siblings' entry into acting was a casual exploration, with her brother having a pre-existing interest in The Hunger Games, making her casting in the film particularly exciting for him. Her filming experiences often involved balancing schoolwork, including studies conducted in a potentially unnerving attic setting during the production of "The Haunting Hour," which she found quite frightening. While eager to explore diverse roles after "The Hunger Games," Primrose remains her dream character. She expressed admiration for accomplished actresses like Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lawrence, the latter of whom she considers a close friend and role model. Shields credits director Gary Ross with fostering her creative development and allowing her to explore her acting capabilities. Her ultimate ambition is to become a distinguished actress. She also recounted childhood experiences of being terrified by her father'
