Wilma Murto — Biography
Born Wilma Anna Helena Murto on June 11, 1998, and now known as Wilma Heltelä, this Finnish athlete excels in the pole vault. Her most significant achievement to date is her gold medal performance at the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich. There, she cleared 4.85 meters, a mark that not only equaled the championships record but also established a new Finnish national record. Heltelä continued her winning streak by securing the top spot at the 2023 European Indoor Championships, a historic victory as she became the first Finnish woman ever to achieve gold at that competition. Her earlier career highlights include bronze medals at the 2016 World Under-20 Championships and the 2017 European U20 Championships. Currently, Heltelä holds the Finnish national records for both outdoor and indoor pole vaulting, as well as the world U20 indoor record, set at 4.71 meters.
