Yami Gautam is an accomplished Indian actress, primarily recognized for her contributions to Bollywood. Hailing from a family deeply rooted in the Punjabi film industry, with her father Mukesh Gautam being a director, she initially embarked on her professional journey as a model. Her early acting career saw her grace the small screen in popular television serials like Chand Ke Paar Chalo from 2008 to 2009 and Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam, which aired from 2009 to 2010.

Her transition to Hindi cinema began in 2012 with the release of the comedy-drama Vicky Donor, a role that earned her critical acclaim and the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut. She subsequently appeared in supporting capacities in the suspenseful films Badlapur in 2015 and Kaabil in 2017. Significant commercial success followed with her leading performances in the 2019 war drama Uri: The Surgical Strike and the satirical film Bala.

In recent years, Gautam has starred in several direct-to-streaming releases, including Bhoot Police in 2021, A Thursday and Dasvi in 2022, and Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga in 2023. She further solidified her commercial appeal with a role in the 2023 satire OMG 2 and the 2024 political thriller Article 370.

Born into a Hindu Brahmin family in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, Yami Gautam spent her formative years in Chandigarh. Her father, Mukesh Gautam, is a director in the Punjabi film industry and holds the position of Vice President at PTC Network. Her mother's name is Anjali Gautam. She has two younger siblings: a sister, Surilie Gautam, who debuted in Punjabi cinema with the film Power Cut, and a brother named Ojas Gautam.

Academically, Yami completed her standard schooling and began pursuing a graduate degree in Law Honors. Although she harbored aspirations of joining the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in her youth, she pivoted towards acting at the age of 20, leaving her full-time law studies behind. She has since been completing her graduation part-time in Mumbai. In her personal time, she enjoys reading, interior design, and listening to music.

A period of personal life saw her dating actor Pulkit Samrat, a relationship that began during the filming of Sanam Re in 2015. While Gautam remained private about the matter, their relationship was publicly acknowledged by Samrat's then-wife. The couple eventually parted ways in 2018. Yami Gautam married film director Aditya Dhar on June 4, 2021. Post-marriage, she adopted her husband's surname, becoming Yami Gautam Dhar. The couple welcomed their first child, a son, on May 10, 20
