America Olivo — Biography

America Olivo, born America Athene Olivo on January 5, 1978, is known for her work as an actress and singer. She is particularly recognized for her time as a member of the band Soluna, which performed in both Spanish and English. Born in Los Angeles, Olivo holds citizenship in three countries: the United States, Canada, and Italy. Her parents are Nello Olivo and Danica d'Hondt, who was crowned Miss Canada in 1959. Most recently, Olivo was part of the Broadway production of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

After earning her bachelor's degree from The Juilliard School in New York City, Olivo returned to her hometown of Los Angeles. It was there that she joined forces with Aurora Rodriguez, T Lopez, and Jessica Castellanos to form the band Soluna. The group's success in live performances and recordings led UPN to offer them a deal to develop a sitcom based on their lives. The pilot episode for this show, titled Soluna, was filmed in April 2004 and aired on UPN, though the network ultimately decided not to proceed with a series. Soluna disbanded later that year, prompting Olivo to focus on her individual acting and music pursuits.

In 2008, Olivo contributed to the dance single "Deja Vu," with an album release planned for 2009 under Dauman Music. She was also collaborating with Stereo Martini and Billy Steinberg on her forthcoming album. In that same year, she made a striking appearance on the cover of Mötley Crüe's album Saints of Los Angeles, depicted nude and covered head-to-toe in silver paint. Olivo's image has also graced the covers of two popular romance novels. Furthermore, she was featured in the June 2009 issue of Playboy magazine, where she appeared in seven completely nude photographs captured by photographer Terry Richardson.

The experience of filming the Soluna pilot opened new avenues for Olivo, including the opportunity to return to her theatrical roots. She took on the leading female role in the new musical Hotel C'est L'Amour at The Blank Theatre in Los Angeles. Her performance in this production earned her an LA Weekly Theater Award nomination in 2007 for originating the character of "Marie." Olivo's recent theatrical work includes her role as a swing and understudy for "Arachne" in the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Previews for the show began on November 28, 2010. When the original "Arachne," Natalie Mendoza, sustained a concussion during the first preview, Olivo stepped into the role for several weeks in December 2010. This demanding part involved complex aerial sequences, including being spun upside down. Although the role of Arachne was ultimately given to T
