Bar Paly, born Varvara Alexandrovna Paley on April 29, 1985, in Nizhny Tagil, Russia (then part of the USSR), relocated to Israel at the age of seven. She was raised in Tel Aviv by her parents, Olga and Alexander Paly/Phaly. Paly identifies as Ashkenazi Jewish and became a U.S. citizen in 2016. By July 2024, she had garnered a following of 122,000 on Instagram.
Paly initiated her modeling career when she was just 17. Over the years, she has graced the covers of several notable magazines, including Maxim, Rolling Stone, and GQ. In May 2014, she was featured on the cover of the Latin American edition of Esquire.
Her acting career commenced in 2003, with Paly taking on a variety of roles in television, including an appearance in the Israeli mockumentary film Zehirut Matzlema. She has made guest appearances on popular shows such as How I Met Your Mother and The Starter Wife, in addition to starring in the 2008 horror film The Ruins. In 2013, she acted in Roman Coppola's A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, which featured Charlie Sheen, Jason Schwartzman, and Bill Murray. Paly also portrayed Sorina Luminita in Michael Bay's 2013 film Pain & Gain, starring alongside Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson; the film's title is drawn from the expression "no pain, no gain." Moreover, she appeared in the 2014 action thriller Non-Stop, opposite Liam Neeson. Since 2015, Paly has been seen in a recurring role as Anastasia "Anna" Kolcheck on the American crime drama NCIS: Los Angeles. Between 2017 and 2018, she took on the role of Helen of Troy in the Arrowverse series DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
