Candice Susan Swanepoel entered the world on October 20, 1988, in Mooi River, a small farming community nestled in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. She spent her formative years on a working farm with her parents, Willem Swanepoel from Mutare, Zimbabwe, and Eileen Swanepoel, whose maiden name was Green. The family traced their heritage to Afrikaner and Dutch roots. Candice had an older brother named Stephen. During her younger years, she trained in ballet and attended St. Anne's Diocesan College, a residential institution located in Hilton, South Africa. When she turned 15, a talent scout noticed her at a Durban flea market, setting her on the path to professional modeling. Her background reflects Afrikaner descent with Dutch lineage.

Following her discovery in 2003, Candice launched her modeling profession and eventually relocated to Europe seeking career advancement. She quickly established herself in the industry and collaborated with prominent agencies such as Elite Model Management, Way Model Management, and Munich Models. Her work in editorial fashion spans numerous prestigious publications, including multiple editions of Vogue across different countries, British and German Elle, American and British GQ, and various Harper's Bazaar editions. Her association with Victoria's Secret commenced in 2007 during her inaugural fashion show participation. She appeared in nine shows between 2007 and 2015, famously wearing the ten-million-dollar Royal Fantasy Bra in 2013. She made a comeback to the runway in 2024 following a six-year absence.
