Ashley Elizabeth Fliehr, widely known as Charlotte Flair, was born on April 5, 1986, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to renowned professional wrestler Ric Flair and his then-wife, Elizabeth Harrell. She has an older half-sister, Megan, an older half-brother, David, and a younger brother, Reid, who sadly passed away on March 29, 2013. During her high school years at Providence High School, Fliehr excelled in volleyball, winning two NCHSAA 4 A-State championships and serving as team captain, earning player of the year honors in 2004–2005. She later attended Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, where she played volleyball during the 2005 and 2006 seasons before transferring to North Carolina State University. She graduated in Spring 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in public relations and became a certified personal trainer prior to her wrestling career. Flair was present ringside for a December 6, 2004, episode of Raw in her hometown, witnessing Lita and Trish Stratus compete in the main event for the WWE Women's Championship. Nearly 12 years later, on October 3, 2016, Flair and her rival Sasha Banks would make history in the same way, as it marked the third time a Women's Championship match headlined an episode of Raw.

Flair’s journey in professional wrestling began at the age of seven when she made her first appearance in a vignette with her father during the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) pay-per-view Starrcade '93: 10th Anniversary. In 2000, she reappeared in WCW during her father's feud with Vince Russo and alongside her half-brother, David. She took part in a segment on the May 15 episode of Monday Nitro, where Russo, Daffney, and David invaded the Flair family home until her mother Beth and her brother Reid confronted them. At The Great American Bash on June 11, she supported her father in a retirement match against David, helping him win by attacking Russo, who had attempted to interfere. The following night, she was restrained while trying to assist her father in a handicap match, which resulted in another loss for Ric Flair.

In December 2020, Flair made her return to the ring at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs as the unexpected tag team partner of Asuka, and together they defeated Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler, making her the fifth Women's Triple Crown Champion and the fourth Women's Grand Slam Champion. A subsequent feud with Lacey Evans and her father led to multiple title matches, including losing the tag titles back to Jax and Baszler at the Royal Rumble on January 31, 2021. Due to Evans announcing her pregnancy, the planned Raw Women's Championship match at Elimination Chamber was canceled. Flair aimed to challenge Asuka at WrestleMania 37
