Cynthia Nixon — Biography

Cynthia Nixon, born on April 9, 1966, is an American talent known for her acting, activism, and work as a theater director. Her groundbreaking portrayal of Miranda Hobbes in the HBO series Sex and the City, which aired from 1998 to 2004, earned her the 2004 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She continued to embody the character in the subsequent films Sex and the City (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010), and most recently in the television continuation And Just Like That... (2021–present). Her filmography also features notable appearances in Amadeus (1984), James White (2015), and as Emily Dickinson in A Quiet Passion (2016).

Nixon's stage career commenced with her Broadway debut in the 1980 revival of The Philadelphia Story. Her extensive Broadway credits include The Real Thing (1983), Hurlyburly (1983), Indiscretions (1995), The Women (2001), and Wit (2012). She received the 2006 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her performance in Rabbit Hole. Further accolades include the 2008 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for An Inconvenient Truth, and the 2017 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for The Little Foxes. Her television work has seen her portray significant figures, such as Kade Prenall in NBC's Hannibal, Eleanor Roosevelt in Warm Springs (2005), Michele Davis in Too Big to Fail (2011), and Nancy Reagan in the 2016 television film Killing Reagan. In 2020, she appeared in the Netflix drama Ratched.

From 1988 to 2003, Nixon was in a long-term relationship with educator Danny Mozes, with whom she has two children. In June 2018, Nixon shared that her elder child is transgender. Nixon began dating education activist Christine Marinoni in 2004. The couple announced their engagement in April 2009, and they were married in New York City on May 27, 2012. For the ceremony, Nixon wore a bespoke pale green gown designed by Carolina Herrera. Marinoni became a parent to a son in 2011.
