Über Daphne Zuniga

Born in San Francisco, California, Daphne Zuniga is the daughter of Agnes A. Zuniga, née Janawicz, and Joaquin Alberto Zuniga Mazariegos. Her mother, whose heritage traces back to Poland and Finland, serves as a Unitarian minister. Her father, originally from Guatemala, held the position of emeritus professor of philosophy at California State University, East Bay. Daphne has two sisters, Jennifer and Rosario.

As a young teenager, Zuniga discovered a passion for acting and participated in the Young Conservatory program at San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater. Following her parents' divorce, she relocated with her mother and sister from Berkeley, California, to Reading, Vermont, where she completed her adolescence. Zuniga graduated from Woodstock Union High School in Woodstock, Vermont, in 1980. She then returned to California and enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles, to pursue a degree in theater arts. After departing from college, Zuniga shared an apartment and a close friendship with fellow actress Meg Ryan.

Zuniga's acting career began with a supporting role in the 1982 slasher film The Dorm That Dripped Blood, while she was still a student at UCLA. She subsequently secured a role in the 1984 horror film The Initiation, appearing alongside Vera Miles and Clu Gulager. This was followed by a leading part in Rob Reiner's 1985 film, The Sure Thing, where she starred opposite John Cusack. In 1986, she took on the memorable role of Princess Vespa in Mel Brooks' cult comedy Spaceballs, released in 1987. Her filmography continued with a supporting turn in the 1989 science fiction horror sequel, The Fly II.

From 1992 to 1996, Zuniga achieved significant mainstream recognition for her portrayal of Jo Reynolds in the highly successful soap opera Melrose Place. Following this prominent television role, she made numerous appearances on other series. This included a lead part as Shelly Pierce in American Dreams from 2004 to 2005, and a recurring role as Victoria Davis on the popular CW series One Tree Hill, a character she played from 2008 to 2012.
