Elle Fanning's career in entertainment began when she was not yet three years old. Early in her acting journey, she portrayed younger versions of characters played by her older sister Dakota in the miniseries Taken and the film I Am Sam. At age four in 2002, Fanning secured her first role without her sister, appearing in the comedy Daddy Day Care. Her social media presence has grown significantly, with her Instagram account reaching 6.3 million followers by April 2024. In 2017, she appeared in Shawn Christensen's dramatic feature The Vanishing of Sidney Hall, which premiered on January 25 at the Sundance Film Festival. She also starred opposite Peter Dinklage in I Think We're Alone Now, directed by Reed Morano, which had its festival debut on January 21, 2018, before receiving a theatrical release from Momentum Pictures on September 14, 2018. During 2019, Fanning achieved a significant honor when she was selected as a jury member for the main competition at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, making her the youngest member to serve in that capacity. That same year, she appeared in Woody Allen's A Rainy Day in New York. She also reprised her role as Princess Aurora in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Fanning is the niece of Jill Arrington and cousin of Presley Panaro. Beyond her film work, she maintains a strong interest in magic, having participated in various illusions including being sawed in half and guillotined by professional magicians.
