Erica Durance, born on June 21, 1978, in Calgary, Alberta, is a Canadian actress renowned for her portrayal of Lois Lane on the hit series Smallville. Growing up in Three Hills, Alberta, she made the decision to move to Vancouver, British Columbia, after completing high school to actively pursue a career in acting. Durance noted her desire to gain experience in a less daunting environment compared to Los Angeles. Her early career involved studying acting, beginning with extra roles, then progressing to commercials and guest appearances, gradually securing larger parts.
In 2004, she appeared as Ashley in an episode of The Chris Isaak Show, where she went on a date with the character played by Chris. Her role in Tru Calling featured her as a competitor in a beauty pageant opposite Eliza Dushku's character. Durance showcased her versatility on the Sci-Fi Channel, taking on the roles of an intergalactic librarian in Andromeda and Teal'c's love interest in Stargate SG-1. She also played a supporting role as a sister to one of the main characters in the Canadian series The Collector.
Durance initially guest-starred as Lois Lane during the fourth season of Smallville (2004-05) and became a main cast member starting in the fifth season (2005-06) until the show concluded.
