Halle Berry — Biography

Halle Berry is an American actress who started her professional journey in modeling and competing in beauty pageants, where she achieved second place in Miss USA and sixth place in Miss World 1986. Her major breakthrough came through the romantic comedy Boomerang in 1992, where she starred opposite Eddie Murphy, subsequently earning roles in The Flintstones from 1994 and Bulworth in 1998, along with the made-for-television movie Introducing Dorothy Dandridge in 1999, garnering her a Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award. Throughout the 2000s, she rose to become one of Hollywood's most highly compensated actresses. Her portrayal of a grieving widow in the drama Monster's Ball during 2001 made her the sole African-American woman to achieve the Academy Award for Best Actress and the first woman of color to do so. She subsequently claimed prominent roles including the character Storm across four X-Men films spanning 2000 to 2014, a criminal associate in the action thriller Swordfish from 2001, Bond girl Jinx in Die Another Day released in 2002, and the central role in the critically panned Catwoman in 2004. The years following brought inconsistent critical acclaim and box office results, featuring her in projects such as Perfect Stranger in 2007, Cloud Atlas in 2012, and The Call in 2013. In 2014, she established her production company called 606 Films and worked on various productions in which she appeared, including the science fiction television program Extant on CBS that aired from 2014 to 2015. She participated in action franchises including Kingsman: The Golden Circle in 2017 and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum in 2019, and directed the Netflix drama Bruised in 2020. Since 1996, Berry has served as a spokesperson for Revlon. Her personal relationships have included marriages to baseball athlete David Justice, musical artist Eric Benét, and performer Olivier Martinez. She has two children from separate partnerships with Martinez and model Gabriel Aubry. Multiple publications have recognized her physical beauty, including being ranked first on People's "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" list in 2003 after appearing in their top ten rankings seven previous times, and first on FHM's "100 Sexiest Women in the World" that same year. Esquire magazine designated her "Sexiest Woman Alive" in October 2008, to which she responded that despite not fully understanding the honor's significance, she appreciated it given her age of 42 and recent motherhood. Men's Health positioned her at number 35 on their "100 Hottest Women of All-Time" ranking
