Jessica Matten — Biography

Jessica Matten, an Indigenous actress acclaimed for her roles in Dark Winds and Frontier, has devoted her life to advancing Indigenous communities. For two decades, she has collaborated extensively with Indigenous peoples, largely across Canada, through her company 7 Forward Entertainment, aiming to dismantle cycles of intergenerational trauma. Her engagement in the film and television sector is deeply intertwined with her philanthropic efforts, primarily focused on supporting Indigenous youth grappling with issues of identity, racism, lateral violence, bullying, and displacement stemming from trauma, abuse, or adoption. She is also a staunch advocate for justice for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. In 2022, Matten stars alongside Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon in the AMC Network's television series "Dark Winds," a production executive produced by Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin of Game of Thrones fame, and Graham Roland.
