She became a cast member of The L Word, portraying Niki Stevens, a closeted lesbian actress and the girlfriend of Jenny Schecter. She featured in the fifth and sixth seasons of the series. French also lent her talents to South of Nowhere, playing Sasha Miller, a romantic interest for the character Aiden Dennison. Her acting credits expanded to include a two-episode stint on the teen drama Gossip Girl as Elle, an enigmatic nanny. Roles in other television programs such as CSI: Miami and One Tree Hill soon followed.
In 2009, French contributed a supporting performance to the independent horror film Sutures. She then took on a leading role in the independent romantic comedy Language of a Broken Heart, directed by Rocky Powell, which was released in 2011. Her participation extended to the rock musical film Girltrash: All Night Long in 2014, where she played Sid, a spirited party girl with acting aspirations. That same year, French starred opposite Jason Ritter in the short film Atlantis, a romance exploring the connection between two strangers leading up to the final launch of the NASA space shuttle Atlantis. She also held a leading part in the independent thriller The Red House.
