Kimberly Nicole Rathkamp, professionally known as Kayden Kross, was born on September 15, 1985, in Sacramento, California. With Swedish heritage on her father's side, she spent her formative years in the Sacramento area, including time in Placerville. She demonstrated strong academic performance throughout her schooling and developed a passion for animals during childhood. At age seventeen, she completed high school and enrolled at California State University, Sacramento, where she studied psychology and English. She eventually departed from her studies to pursue work as a model and exotic dancer.
Kross began her career in adult entertainment in November 2006 at the age of twenty-one.
