Khatia Buniatishvili — Biography

Khatia Buniatishvili, a celebrated pianist with ties to both Georgia and France, hails from Batumi, a city on the Black Sea. Her musical journey commenced at the tender age of three, tutored by her mother, whose passion for music also fostered the talent of her older sibling, Gvantsa. Khatia's debut with the Tbilisi Chamber Orchestra occurred when she was only six, and by ten, she was already performing on the international stage. Later, she relocated to Vienna to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts under the instruction of Oleg Maisenberg, a decision influenced by her success at a 2003 competition. Since then, Buniatishvili has graced stages with prominent orchestras and conductors globally, such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, Zubin Mehta, and Gustavo Dudamel, and has performed in esteemed halls like Carnegie Hall and the BBC Proms. A recording artist with Sony Classical, she has produced highly regarded albums, garnered ECHO Klassik Awards, and explored diverse musical collaborations. Beyond her musical achievements, she is known for her humanitarian efforts and her role as a Cartier ambassador. Buniatishvili is a citizen of both Georgia and France, a mother, and makes her home mainly in Paris. Her sister, Gvantsa Buniatishvili, is also a musician.
