Kristine Debell — Biography

Kristine Debell grew up on a modest, self-sustaining farm in upstate New York. From a young age, she was immersed in the arts, studying ballet and voice. At the age of 14, she began her modeling career with Macy's. In her freshman year of high school, Kristine auditioned for the role of Marta in the musical THE SOUND OF MUSIC and was cast in the part. The next summer, the newly established Mac-Haydn Theatre debuted in her hometown, showcasing THE SOUND OF MUSIC as the closure of its season. Kristine auditioned for Marta once more, but producers deemed her voice too advanced and instead cast her as a mischievous postulant. This marked the start of an enriching four-season experience with The Mac-Haydn Theatre.

After finishing high school and spending a year at Berkeley College studying Fashion Merchandising, Kristine joined Ford Models, where she encountered the film industry. At just 22, she starred in the 1976 erotic musical comedy Alice in Wonderland. Initially intended to be a softcore X-rated film, the production evolved to include hardcore scenes, and Kristine later spoke of the pressure she faced to perform unsimulated sexual acts, which she felt negatively impacted her career trajectory.

Throughout her career, Kristine appeared in various films, including MEATBALLS—Bill Murray's debut and Ivan Reitman’s first directing project—BLOOD BROTHERS alongside Richard Gere, directed by Robert Mulligan, and THE BIG BRAWL, Jackie Chan’s first American endeavor. In the early 1980s, she took part in several television pilots and made guest appearances in shows such as NIGHT COURT, EIGHT IS ENOUGH, BJ AND THE BEAR, and the acclaimed soap opera THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS.

In the mid-1980s, Kristine decided to step away from the film and television scene to focus on raising her children on a thoroughbred farm near her hometown. Her love for theater led her back to performing, and she starred in numerous regional theater productions, with her portrayal of Blanche Dubois in Tennessee Williams’ A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE being particularly notable.

Since relocating to Los Angeles in 2008, Kristine has found consistent opportunities in film, featuring in productions like HUNTER with Ron Becks, A HALLOWEEN PUPPY with Eric Roberts, A TALKING CAT?!? with Johnny Whitaker, and a host of children's films. Her comprehensive body of work is cataloged on IMDB.
