Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, better known as Lady Gaga, is an American artist recognized for her transformative image and diverse talent across the entertainment landscape. She began her career as a teenager, engaging in performances at open mic events and taking part in school theatrical productions. Gaga attended the Collaborative Arts Project 21 affiliated with New York University's Tisch School of the Arts but left her studies to chase a music career. After her contract with Def Jam Recordings was terminated, she began writing songs for Sony/ATV Music Publishing, eventually entering into a partnership with Interscope Records and KonLive Distribution in 2007. Gaga rose to prominence the following year with her debut album, The Fame, featuring hit singles like "Just Dance" and "Poker Face." This initial success led to a reissue of the album to include The Fame Monster (2009), which produced notable tracks such as "Bad Romance," "Telephone," and "Alejandro." All five of her subsequent albums debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200.

Her second album, Born This Way (2011), incorporated elements of electronic rock and techno-pop, selling over a million copies in its debut week. The title song became a record-holding hit, achieving over one million downloads within days of release. Following the EDM-inspired Artpop (2013), which featured the lead single "Applause," Gaga collaborated with Tony Bennett on the jazz album Cheek to Cheek (2014) and released the soft rock album Joanne (2016). She also made significant strides in acting, earning accolades for her performances in the miniseries American Horror Story: Hotel (2015–2016) and the film A Star Is Born (2018). From the latter's soundtrack, the single "Shallow" contributed to her making history as the first woman to claim an Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, and Grammy Award in the same year. Returning to her dance-pop roots, Gaga released her sixth studio album, Chromatica (2020), which featured the chart-topping "Rain on Me." In 2021, she launched her second collaborative album with Bennett, Love for Sale, and appeared in the biopic House of Gucci.

With approximately 170 million records sold, Gaga ranks among the best-selling artists worldwide, holding the unique distinction of being the only female performer with four singles that have each surpassed 10 million copies in global sales. Her extensive list of accolades includes 13 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and 18 MTV Video Music Awards, as well as honors from the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Council of Fashion Designers of America. She has been recognized as Billboard's Artist of the Year in 2010 and Woman of the Year in 2015, and her influence has landed her on various Forbes power rankings and VH1's Greatest Women in Music list in 2012.
