Mitski — Biography
Mitsuki Miyawaki, also known by her artistic moniker Mitski, is an American vocalist and lyricist. Her initial musical endeavors, Lush from 2012 and Retired from Sad, New Career in Business from 2013, were independently distributed projects completed during her tenure at Purchase College's Conservatory of Music, where she pursued studio composition. These works served as her capstone academic presentations. Her third full-length release, Bury Me at Makeout Creek, arrived in 2014 under the Double Double Whammy imprint. In 2015, Mitski entered into an agreement with Dead Oceans, leading to the subsequent releases of Puberty 2 in 2016, Be the Cowboy in 2018, and Laurel Hell in 2022, the latter achieving a top ten position in multiple nations. In 2022, The Guardian recognized her as the premier young songwriter in the United States. Later that year, she contributed to the songwriting of "This Is a Life," a track featured in the film Everything Everywhere All at Once, a collaboration that garnered her an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Her seventh studio album, The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, debuted in 2023. The single "My Love Mine All Mine," from this album, marked her debut appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Mitski's heritage encompasses both English and Japanese roots.
