Über Mitzi Gaynor

Mitzi Gaynor, born on September 4, 1931, is a performer celebrated for her talents as an actress, singer, and dancer. Her filmography boasts significant roles, including a part in 1954's "There's No Business Like Show Business," a musical featuring the songs of Irving Berlin and a star-studded cast alongside Ethel Merman, Dan Dailey, Marilyn Monroe, Donald O'Connor, and Johnnie Ray. She also starred in the 1958 cinematic rendition of the Rodgers and Hammerstein stage hit, "South Pacific." Even after her film career, Gaynor remained a beloved figure, frequently gracing the Academy Awards stage to perform songs. In 1967, she delivered the theme from "Georgy Girl" at the Oscar telecast, a performance that later became a staple of her concert sets. The 1960s and '70s saw her shine in nine well-received television specials, earning a remarkable 16 Emmy nominations. An interesting moment in her career occurred on February 16, 1964, when she appeared between sets by The Beatles during their second appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show." Performing a substantial nine-minute segment from Miami Beach's Deauville Hotel, with a commercial break dividing her act, she sang "Too Darn Hot" and a blues medley. Gaynor also released two albums for the Verve label: "Mitzi" and "Mitzi Gaynor Sings the Lyrics of Ira Gershwin." It's believed her earnings from the soundtrack album of "South Pacific" exceeded her salary for the film. She also recorded the title song for her movie "Happy Anniversary" for the Top Rank label. For many years, Gaynor was a consistent presence in Las Vegas and a frequent performer in nightclubs and concert halls across the United States and Canada. In the 1990s, she contributed as a columnist to the prominent industry publication, The Hollywood Reporter. During her time performing in nightclubs, she honed her acts at The Cave, a popular Vancouver venue, developing a strong connection with the city and its media. "Mitzi's back in town" became a recurring phrase as she annually visited Vancouver for extended periods to prepare her Las Vegas routines. On December 4, 2006, Mitzi Gaynor's husband of 52 years, Jack Bean, a producer and personal manager who oversaw her career, passed away at their Beverly Hills home at the age of 84. On July 30, 2008, Gaynor participated in the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' TV Moves Live, a tribute to sixty years of dance on television, alongside notable figures and cast members from various popular shows. She performed the concluding moments of "Poor Papa," a song-and-dance number from her 19
