Regina Spektor — Biography

Born in Russia, Regina Spektor is an American artist known for her skills as a vocalist, composer, and keyboardist. She first cultivated a following within the vibrant independent music circles of New York City, especially the anti-folk movement flourishing in the East Village. Spektor initially released her initial three albums independently before a move to Sire Records in 2004 amplified her reach. Following the major label re-release of her third album, Sire put out Spektor's fourth studio effort, Begin to Hope, which went on to earn a Gold certification from the RIAA. Her subsequent two LPs, Far and What We Saw from the Cheap Seats, both made their debut at number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. In recognition of her impact, New York City declared June 11, 2019, as Regina Spektor Day, proclaimed by Mayor Bill de Blasio. Earlier that year, on May 18, 2019, Borough President Rubén Díaz Jr. welcomed Spektor into the Bronx Walk of Fame. Spektor's heritage is a blend of Ashkenazi Jewish and Russian roots. As of June 2024, her presence on Instagram includes a following of 265 thousand individuals.
