Rose McGowan — Biography

Rose McGowan is a multifaceted American actress and activist. She was born to Irish artist Daniel McGowan and has two younger half-siblings. McGowan made her film debut with a small role in the comedy Encino Man (1992) but gained significant attention for her performance in the dark comedy The Doom Generation (1995), earning a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Debut Performance. Her career took a major turn with her role in the iconic horror film Scream (1996), which led to her starring in films such as Going All the Way (1997), Devil in the Flesh (1998), and Jawbreaker (1999).

Throughout the 2000s, McGowan became a household name on television for portraying Paige Matthews in the WB supernatural drama series Charmed, which ran from 2001 to 2006. She appeared in the 2007 double-feature film Grindhouse, directed by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, earning nominations for the Saturn Award for Best Actress and the Scream Award for Best Scream Queen. McGowan also had a role in the action-thriller series Chosen (2014) and released her debut studio album, Planet 9, in 2018, with a repackaged version coming out in 2020. In 2017, Time magazine honored McGowan as one of the Silence Breakers, naming her Person of the Year for her courageous stand against sexual assault and harassment, particularly regarding the Harvey Weinstein cases and the MeToo movement. She published her memoir, Brave, and starred in the four-part documentary series Citizen Rose, both released in 2018.
