Sanne Keizer — Biography
Born on February 6, 1985, Sanne Keizer is a Dutch force on the beach volleyball court, specializing as a right-side defender alongside her partner Madelein Meppelink. Her impressive resume boasts a collection of eight FIVB World Tour medals, including two golds, two silvers, and four bronzes. She has also claimed the European Championship title twice and represented the Netherlands at the 2012 London Olympic Games, securing a ninth-place finish with Marleen van Iersel.
Keizer's journey in volleyball began with indoor play at the age of eleven, where she honed her skills in Dutch leagues for several years. Her transition to the international beach scene commenced in 2002, a year that also saw her crowned the first-ever U18 World Champion. The subsequent year marked her debut on the World Tour. For the next eight seasons, her international achievements were modest, with her competing alongside three different partners. A significant turning point arrived in late 2008 when she joined forces with van Iersel. This partnership propelled them into the world's top ten rankings the following year, leading to five World Tour podium finishes, most notably their first title in 2011. Their successful collaboration continued until Keizer's retirement from beach volleyball at the close of 2013.
Following a four-year break from the sport, Keizer made a full-time return, this time partnered with Madelein Meppelink. Her role on the court also shifted; having previously played as a blocker, she now competed as a defender. Keizer and Meppelink experienced immediate synergy, earning two World Tour medals in their inaugural season together and triumphing at the 2018 European Championships.
