Born on April 10th, 1979, Sophie Michelle Ellis-Bextor is an English artist known for her singing and songwriting. Her initial rise to fame occurred in the late 1990s as the frontwoman for the indie rock group Theaudience. Following the band's dissolution, Ellis-Bextor launched a solo career that saw considerable success starting in the early 2000s. Her first solo album, Read My Lips, arrived in 2001 and reached number two on the UK Albums Chart. This record earned a double platinum certification from the BPI and sold 1.5 million copies globally, propelled by the hit single "Murder on the Dancefloor." Her musical style is characterized as mainstream pop and dance, drawing inspiration from disco, nu-disco, and the electronic sounds of the 1980s. Ellis-Bextor's path crossed with Richard Jones, the bassist for The Feeling and her future husband, in 2002 when he auditioned for her touring band. Jones has described their initial connection as immediate and powerful, stating, "Something kind of smacked us in the face. The chemistry was incredible—it was like nothing I've ever experienced." Their first son arrived two months ahead of schedule, just eight months after their relationship began. The couple exchanged vows on June 25th, 2005, in Città di Castello, Italy. They are parents to five sons, welcomed in the years 2004, 2009, 2012, 2015, and 2019.
