Über Stephanie Nur

Born in Cairo, Stephanie Nur’s upbringing was shaped by her father’s career as an Austrian diplomat and her mother’s talent as a Syrian painter. This led to a peripatetic childhood, with her family moving to a new country every few years. Her international journey has taken her through Egypt, Romania, Italy, Austria, Sri Lanka, Scotland, Jordan, and the United States. Proficient in Arabic, German, Italian, and English, she also carries a middle name, "Nur," which means "light" in the ancient Aramaic tongue.

Nur pursued her academic interests at the University of Stirling in Scotland, earning an MSc in Psychology with Honours, a feat accomplished in three years rather than the typical five. Her commitment to humanitarian efforts became evident in 2011 when she contributed to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan, specifically addressing the Syrian refugee crisis. During her time there, she worked under the guidance of Imran Riza, who led the UNHCR for the MENA region.

Her artistic inclinations first found expression on the intimate stages of Vienna’s small theaters. Her transition to film began with a role in Risse im Beton (Cracks in Concrete), a film that garnered a nomination at the Berlinale Film Festival and an Austrian Film Academy Award in 2014. While in Vienna and between acting engagements, she also lent her linguistic skills to film production companies across Europe, translating scripts, subtitles, treatments, and festival submissions.

Taylor Sheridan, the acclaimed writer, creator, and director, recognized her talent, casting her in a supporting guest role opposite Sam Elliott in the Paramount+ Western drama, 1883. Sheridan further enlisted her for Special Ops: Lioness, a successful CIA drama on Paramount+, this time granting her a significant series-regular part. Her portrayal of Aaliyah in Special Ops: Lioness garnered considerable acclaim and cultivated a devoted following. That same year, she also earned international recognition for her starring role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, the latest chapter in the beloved franchise. Most recently, she embodied Salome, sister to King Herod the Great, portrayed by Anthony Hopkins, in the film MARY, slated for a December 2024 premiere. As of May 2025, Nur has cultivated a substantial online presence, with 151,000 followers on Instagram.
