Susan Anton — Biography
Susan Anton, crowned Miss California in 1969, has cultivated a career spanning over three and a half decades as a versatile international performer across television, film, the stage, and concert halls. Her cinematic debut in Goldengirl (1979) earned her a Golden Globe nomination, swiftly leading to her own NBC variety program, Presenting Susan Anton (1979). ABC later engaged her for a development deal, which saw her take a leading role in the drama series Cliffhangers. Her extensive film and television resume boasts hundreds of appearances.
On Broadway, Anton shared the stage with the original cast of Tommy Tune's Tony-winning musical, "The Will Rogers Follies," and collaborated with director Mike Nichols in David Rabe's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, "Hurlyburly." She also portrayed "Velma Von Tussle" in the Las Vegas production of the Broadway hit "Hairspray," opposite Harvey Fierstein, under the direction of Tony winner Jack O'Brien and choreography by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell. She later reprised this role for three notable performances at the Hollywood Bowl alongside a celebrated cast, with direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell. Anton also participated in the national tour of the Broadway musical "All Shook Up," directed by Christopher Ashley and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo.
For seven years, Susan Anton was a featured performer in The Great Radio City Music Hall Spectacular alongside the iconic Radio City Rockettes, directed by the late Joe Layton. Her theatrical engagements also include touring in Neil Simon and Marvin Hamlisch's "They're Playing Our Song," and a co-starring role with Elizabeth Ashley in the national tour of "A Couple of White Chicks Sitting Around Talking." She has had the honor of performing with legendary entertainers such as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Tom Jones, among many others. Country music superstar Kenny Rogers also featured her on tour, and she achieved a top 10 country music hit with her song "Killing Time." Internationally, Anton experienced recording success, earning a Gold record for her hit "Foxy."
Susan Anton and her husband, director Jeff Lester, have made Las Vegas their home for over two decades. In 1997, they established their production company, "Big Picture Studios." Under this company, Anton executive-produced the acclaimed film The Last Real Cowboys (2000), which starred Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton, and also executive-produced the documentary Speed of Life (2008), featuring Amy Purdy, a Sochi bronze medalist and runner-up on "Dancing with the Stars" (2005). More recently, Anton became a minority partner and celebrity brand ambassador for the beverage company Spa Girl Cocktails, launched in late 2015.
