Taryn Manning — Biography
Born in Falls Church, Virginia, Taryn Manning's early life saw her parents, musician Bill Manning and Sharyn, separate when she was just two months old. She then relocated with her mother and brother to Tucson, Arizona, where she spent her formative years. From a young age, Manning engaged in a variety of activities including dance, karate, and acting. By the age of twelve, her family had made another move, this time to California.
Her professional acting journey gained momentum in 2001 when she secured her first significant part as Maddy in the film Bela Loucura. However, it was her portrayal of Nola, a prostitute in Memphis, Tennessee, in the critically acclaimed 2005 movie Hustle & Flow that truly propelled her into the spotlight. This role earned her a nomination for Best Breakthrough Performance from the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Awards, and the film itself was recognized with a SAG award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast.
Manning's television work includes appearances on the CBS series Hawai Força Especial and the FX drama Sons of Anarchy. Her extensive filmography also features roles in O Rancho do Amor, Cold Mountain, 8 Mile, O Amor Está no Ar, A Flor do Mal, and Destinos. More recently, she has been a prominent cast member of the popular series Orange Is the New Black.
