Tatjana Simic — Biography

Born Tatjana Simić on June 9, 1963, in Zagreb, then part of Socialist Republic of Croatia in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, she is a performer known both as a singer and an actress, holding Dutch and Croatian citizenship. Moving to Rotterdam with her mother and sister in 1979, she launched a career in modeling and acting during the 1980s after securing a national modeling competition. In the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, she is primarily recognized for her role as Kees Flodder, a member of an unconventional family perpetually at odds with authorities, appearing in a series of popular Dutch comedies for film and television throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The initial film garnered significant attention, drawing two and a half million viewers in the Netherlands.

Simić embarked on her musical journey in 1987 with the release of her debut single, "Baby Love." Her European breakthrough came with the hit song "Chica Cubana," followed by "Awake Boy" in 1989. In 1992, she collaborated with Dutch singer Gerard Joling on a rendition of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You." Her first album arrived in 1993, featuring the track "Feel Good," which climbed to number 25 on the Dutch Top 40. Her most widely recognized song, "Santa Maria," a production by Mike Stock and Matt Aitken of Stock Aitken Waterman, achieved international dance chart success. A subsequent single, "Calendar Girl," released in 1997 via Central Station, did not replicate this level of popularity. An album titled "Feel Good," produced by Rene Van Verseveld and Wendy Alane Wright, was released in Japan and the Netherlands, yielding singles such as "Feel Good," "First Time," and "Sweet Sweet Smile." She has since continued to release dance tracks, with "Baila Baila" reaching number 24 on the Dutch Top 40 in 2001. Tatjana made a return to music in 2008 with the Dutch-language song "Ik Laat Je Gaan." This release marked a departure from her signature disco sound, embracing a more rock-pop style. The song became her most successful Dutch hit to date, reaching number 11 on the Dutch Singles Charts. A new album was slated for release in 2008.
