Teri Garr’s connection to the entertainment world was practically preordained. Her father, Eddie Garr, was a fixture in both Broadway theater and film, while her mother, Phyllis Garr, was a dancer. The family relocated from Hollywood to New Jersey during Garr's infancy. However, after the passing of her father when she was eleven, they moved back to Hollywood. There, her mother found work as a wardrobe mistress for film and television productions.
While Garr's early career included dancing in five Elvis Presley films, her inaugural speaking part in a motion picture was in the 1968 feature Head, a film starring The Monkees. The 1970s saw her solidify her presence on television, with notable appearances on programs like Star Trek, It Takes a Thief, and McCloud.
