Thandie Newton — Biography

Melanie Thandiwe Newton OBE, previously known as Thandie Newton, is a British actress born on November 6, 1972. Throughout her career, she has garnered numerous accolades, including a Primetime Emmy Award and a BAFTA Award, along with nominations for two Golden Globe Awards. In recognition of her contributions to film and charity, she was honored with the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the New Year Honours of 2019. From 2003 to 2005, Newton portrayed Makemba "Kem" Likasu, a love interest of John Carter, on the popular American medical drama ER. She returned to this role for the show's series finale in 2009. Newton's filmography includes prominent roles such as the lead in Beloved (1998), Nyah Nordoff-Hall in Mission: Impossible 2 (2000), Tiffany in Shade (2003), Dame Vaako in The Chronicles of Riddick (2004), Christine in Crash (2004), Linda in The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), Libby in Run Fatboy Run (2007), Stella in RocknRolla (2008), Condoleezza Rice in W. (2008), Laura Wilson in 2012 (2009), Tangie Adrose in For Colored Girls (2010), Maeve Millay in Westworld (2016–2022), Roz Huntley in Line of Duty (2017), and Val in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). Additionally, she lent her voice to the character Mona in the Netflix adult animated series Big Mouth (2019–2025) and its spinoff, Human Resources (2021–2023). She is the mother of Nico Parker.
