Vanessa Lesnicki — Biography

Born Vanessa Lesnicki on August 16, 1990, in Brussels, the artist known as Shay is a prominent figure in Belgian francophone rap. Her career gained significant traction following a collaboration with Booba in 2011. She has since put out numerous tracks, achieving considerable success with "XCII" under the 92i record label. Shay's debut album, Jolie Garce, arrived on December 2, 2016, and was later recognized with a gold certification. Her second album, Antidote, followed on May 10, 2019. Her musical identity is a fusion of hip-hop, rap, trap, urban pop, and R&B. She is currently signed with Capitol Music France.

Shay's roots are in Brussels, with a Belgian-Polish father and a Congolese mother. She carries a notable musical legacy as the granddaughter of the renowned singer Tabu Ley Rochereau. In 2014, Shay became part of Booba's 92i label, her mentor at the time, and released several singles, including "XCII" and "1200." The summer of 2016 saw the release of "PMW," the inaugural single from her album, which went on to achieve platinum status. On October 7, 2016, the music video for "Biche," another track from her album, debuted and garnered over 7 million views. Shortly after, "Cabeza" was released, eventually earning a gold certification. February 17, 2017, marked the release of the music video for "Thibaut Courtois," a song dedicated to the Belgian national team goalkeeper of the same name, which also received a gold certification.

In 2018, Shay shared a preview of a track titled "Notif" on social media and announced her return to the studio with producers Heezy Lee, Junior à la Prod, and Le Motif via Instagram. Concurrently, she collaborated with Jul on the song "Pim Pom" from Jul's album Inspi d'ailleurs. Shay made her musical return with the single "Jolie" on November 30, 2018, accompanied by a video directed by Guillaume Doubet. January 11, 2019, brought the release of "Cocorico," the second single from her anticipated 2019 album. On February 22, 2019, she released "Notif," complete with a video also directed by Guillaume Doubet, mirroring the aesthetic of "Jolie."
