Zsa Zsa Gabor — Biography

Born Sári Gábor in Hungary, Zsa Zsa Gabor became an iconic Hungarian-American figure, celebrated both for her acting and her distinctive social presence. She followed in the footsteps of her sisters, Eva and Magda, who also achieved fame as actresses and socialites. Gabor's own journey in the spotlight began with a beauty contest, securing the second runner-up position in the 1933 Miss Hungary competition. Her early theatrical endeavors commenced in Vienna the subsequent year.

In 1941, Gabor made her way from Hungary to the United States, where her captivating "European flair and style" quickly made her a sought-after presence in Hollywood. Her persona was often described as one that "exuded charm and grace." Her cinematic debut arrived in 1952 with a supporting role in Lovely to Look At. That same year also saw her appear in We're Not Married! and take on one of her rare leading parts in John Huston's film Moulin Rouge. Huston, reflecting on her performance, deemed her a "creditable" actress.

Beyond her film work, Zsa Zsa Gabor was famously associated with an extravagant Hollywood existence, a glamorous persona, and a notable series of marriages. She was married nine times, with her husbands including prominent figures like hotel magnate Conrad Hilton and actor George Sanders. Gabor herself once remarked on her relationships, stating, "Men have always liked me and I have always liked men. But I like a mannish man, a man who knows how to talk to and treat a woman—not just a man with muscles."
