Ashley Greene is an American actress recognized for her contributions to film and television. Born on February 21, 1987, in Jacksonville, Florida, she is the daughter of Joe Greene Sr., a former U.S. Marine with his own concrete construction business, and Michele (née Tatum), who works in the insurance industry. She has an older brother and spent her childhood between Jacksonville and Middleburg. Greene attended University Christian School before transferring to Samuel W. Wolfson High School during her sophomore year. At 17, she made the bold decision to move to Los Angeles to follow her dream of acting.

Initially aspiring to be a model, Greene soon learned that at 5 feet 5 inches (1.65 m), she did not meet the height requirements for high fashion. This feedback redirected her focus towards acting, and after taking classes in commercials and acting, she developed a passion for the craft. She completed high school early to devote herself to her acting career. Early on, she made guest appearances in various television shows, including Punk'd and Crossing Jordan. Her breakthrough role came in 2008 when she was cast as Alice Cullen in the popular film series The Twilight Saga, adapted from the novels by Stephenie Meyer.
