Brittany Murphy — Biography

Brittany Anne Murphy-Monjack, born Brittany Anne Bertolotti on November 10, 1977, and passing away on December 20, 2009, was an American talent known for both her acting and singing. Her journey in entertainment began when she relocated to Los Angeles as a young woman to pursue acting. Her career truly took off with her portrayal of Tai Frasier in the 1995 film Clueless. She went on to showcase her abilities in supporting parts within independent cinema, including roles in Freeway (1996) and Bongwater (1998). Murphy also ventured into the theatrical realm, making her Broadway debut in Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge in 1997. Her filmography continued to grow with notable appearances as Daisy Randone in Girl, Interrupted (1999) and Lisa Swenson in Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999). Her father, Angelo Bertolotti, had ties to organized crime, reportedly being a made man within the Italian Mafia. An examination of her body took place the day following her death. According to a report released in February 2010 by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, her passing was deemed accidental. The official cause was attributed to pneumonia, exacerbated by severe iron-deficiency anemia and intoxication from multiple medications.
