Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, better known as Cardi B, is an American performer who works as a rapper, songwriter, television personality, and actress. She was born on October 11, 1992, in Manhattan and spent her childhood in The Bronx, New York City. Through social media content shared on platforms like Vine and Instagram, she gained widespread recognition in 2013 when her posts and videos began circulating virally online. Between 2015 and 2017, Cardi B maintained a prominent role in the VH1 series Love & Hip Hop: New York, which documented her pursuit of a music career. During this period, she released two mixtape projects titled Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. Early in 2017, she secured a recording contract with Atlantic Records. By May 2025, her social media presence had grown substantially, with 163.0 million Instagram followers, 27.7 million TikTok followers, and 19.7 million YouTube subscribers. Hennessy Carolina is her sister.
