Dutee Chand — Biography

Born on February 3, 1996, Dutee Chand stands as a prominent Indian sprinter, currently holding the national title in the 100-meter dash. Her athletic journey has etched her name in history as the third Indian woman to achieve qualification for the Women's 100 meters at the Summer Olympic Games. Despite her participation in the 2016 Rio Olympics, her time of 11.69 seconds in the initial heats was not sufficient to advance.

A significant milestone arrived in 2018 when Chand secured a silver medal in the women's 100 meters at the Jakarta Asian Games. This victory marked India's first medal in the event since 1998. Further elevating her achievements, in 2019, she made history as the first Indian sprinter to win a gold medal at the Universiade, crossing the finish line of the 100-meter race in 11.32 seconds. Beyond her athletic prowess, Dutee Chand has also made a groundbreaking contribution as India's first athlete to publicly disclose her identity as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, sharing details of her same-sex relationship in 2019.
