Gale Olson — Biography

Born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, on October 27, 1947, Gale Olson achieved a notable place in pop culture as Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month for August 1968. Her iconic centerfold spread was captured by photographer Ron Vogel. Olson's heritage included a mother from New Zealand and a father serving in the United States Army. She was one of eight children, growing up alongside five brothers and three sisters. Early in her career, Olson spent time working as a Bunny at the renowned Chicago Playboy Club. Her daughter, Crystal McCahill, would later follow a related path, appearing on "The Girls Next Door" in November 2008. This television segment focused on McCahill's audition for the 55th-anniversary edition of Playboy in January 2009, an effort that took place at a Hooters location near Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. McCahill herself went on to become Playboy's Playmate of the Month in May 2009.
