Glynis Barber — Biography
Born in South Africa on October 25, 1955, Glynis Barber's early life saw her parents' separation when she was just five. By eighteen, she had relocated to London to pursue her acting education at the Mountview Academy of Theatre. Her career gained significant traction through her appearances in the BBC science fiction program "Blake's 7" and a variety of film roles, including "Tangier" in 1982, "The Wicked Lady" in 1983, and "Edge of Sanity" in 1989. However, Barber is perhaps most widely recognized for her portrayal of Harriet Makepeace in the acclaimed police drama "Dempsey and Makepeace," which aired from 1985 to 1986.
It was during this period that she encountered Michael Brandon, who would become her husband. The couple has remained married since November 18, 1989, and they share a son named Alexander Max Brandon. Prior to her marriage to Brandon, Barber was married to Paul Antony-Barber. She also briefly took on the role of Glenda Mitchell in the television soap opera "EastEnders" in 1985, stepping in after the initial casting of Jill Gascoine lasted only one day. In the years between her marriages, Barber had a relationship lasting approximately four years with actor Stephen Pacy, whom she met while working on "Blake's Seven." By January of 1987, Barber resided in Hampstead, London.
