She appeared as Ellie Alves in the second season of Netflix's thriller "You" in 2019 and featured in the Netflix family film "Yes Day" in 2021. The drama film "The Fallout" from 2021 brought her critical acclaim. During 2022, she appeared in the slasher films "Scream" and "X," followed by "Scream VI" in 2023, solidifying her reputation as a scream queen. That same year, she took on the title character of Wednesday Addams in the Netflix horror-comedy series "Wednesday," garnering nominations from the Golden Globe, Primetime Emmy, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Jenna Marie Ortega, the youngest of six children, was born on September 27, 2002 in Palm Desert, California. She grew up in La Quinta, California. Starting at age six, she persistently expressed her desire to act, spending three years convincing her mother to support her ambitions. Her mother initially attempted to redirect her interest through soccer and academics. Ortega nearly abandoned her acting dreams to pursue soccer seriously. Her mother eventually purchased a monologue book and filmed the nine-year-old performing, which a casting director discovered online and led to representation. Her mother then began making frequent drives to Los Angeles for auditions, sometimes traveling six hours round trip up to five days weekly. Finding roles proved challenging given the scarcity of Latina characters and not fitting the preferred appearance standards. Ortega stated that repeated rejections motivated her determination to shift industry perceptions. Initially, without industry connections, she auditioned primarily for commercials, booking twelve national campaigns including three McDonald's spots. During weekdays, she worked in Los Angeles and returned home for school, attending Amelia Earhart Elementary and John Glenn Middle School. She left school during eighth grade to pursue Disney opportunities and relocated to Los Angeles after booking "Stuck in the Middle," maintaining a schedule of working in the city during the week and returning home weekends.

Ortega credits her friends and family with providing emotional stability crucial for managing career pressures, noting they help keep her grounded. She has reflected that working in an adult-dominated industry accelerated her emotional maturity beyond her years. She maintained a vegan lifestyle for an extended period before transitioning to pescatarian during her time on Wednesday.

She authored It's All Love: Reflections For Your Heart & Soul in 2020. As of February
