Judith Therese Evans, widely recognized as Judy Greer, was born on July 20, 1975, and is an accomplished American actress, voice artist, comedian, and author. She has established herself primarily as a character actress, frequently taking on supporting roles across a diverse array of films. Greer first gained significant attention in the early 2000s with her appearances in popular romantic comedies such as What Women Want (2000), 13 Going on 30 (2004), 27 Dresses (2008), and Love & Other Drugs (2010). Raised in the Roman Catholic faith—though she no longer practices—she spent her childhood in Redford Township and Livonia. Greer graduated from Churchill High School, where she participated in the Creative and Performing Arts Program, later earning a bachelor of fine arts degree from The Theatre School at DePaul University in 1997. To differentiate herself from other actresses named Judy or Judi Evans, she adopted her mother’s maiden name for her professional identity.
Greer made her cinematic debut in the 1998 horror film Stricken, portraying a college student caught in a deadly prank. This was soon followed by a minor role in the drama Kissing a Fool, which was filmed in Chicago. Her breakthrough role came in 1999 when she played Fern Mayo, a socially awkward teenager who discovers her classmates’ involvement in a murder, in Darren Stein’s dark comedy Jawbreaker, which later gained a cult following. Following this, she had smaller parts in romantic comedies like What Women Want and The Wedding Planner (2001) alongside Jennifer Lopez. In 2002, she was featured in a pilot for NBC's Untitled Ken Finkleman Project with Stephen Colbert, based on the Canadian show The Newsroom, where Greer played Colbert’s sister.
In April 2008, she appeared as a yoga instructor in the famous "Get a Mac" advertising campaign, which starred John Hodgman and Justin Long. Greer took on a lead role in the CBS sitcom Mad Love, which debuted in February 2011 but was canceled after a single season. In November 2011, she received the Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award at the Denver Film Festival—making her the first actress to be honored with this accolade—where both The Descendants and Jeff, Who Lives at Home, featuring her, were showcased. In the same year, she began hosting an online workout video series called Reluctantly Healthy, which was adapted by Litton Entertainment for The CW's Saturday morning programming in 2014.
Greer took on the role of Miss Desjardin, a gym teacher, in the 2013 horror remake of Carrie alongside Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore and voiced Cornelia, a female chimp, in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014). Additionally, 2014 marked her directorial debut with a short film entitled Quiet Time, produced for
