Kaja Kallas — Biography

Kaja Kallas, a prominent Estonian politician, shattered historical precedent by becoming the nation's first female prime minister, a position she held from 2021 to 2024. Prior to her premiership, she steered the Reform Party as its leader from 2018 to 2024. Her legislative career in the Estonian parliament, the Riigikogu, spanned two distinct periods: 2011 to 2014, and again from 2019 to 2021. Before her ascent to national politics, Kallas honed her legal expertise as a lawyer specializing in European competition law. Her international political experience includes serving as a Member of the European Parliament from 2014 to 2018, representing the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe.

Her personal life includes a marriage to Roomet Leiger from 2002 to 2006. She also shared a life with Taavi Veskimägi, a former finance minister and businessman, with whom she has a son; their partnership concluded in 2014. In 2018, Kallas married Arvo Hallik, a banker and investor who has children from a prior relationship.
