Kate Mara is an accomplished American performer in film and television. She was born into two of the most prominent families in American sports, the Maras and the Rooneys. Along with her younger sister Rooney Mara, also an actress, Kate comes from a lineage of extraordinary wealth and influence, though not through entertainment. Their mother, Kathleen Rooney, traces her ancestry to the family that established ownership of the Pittsburgh Steelers, while their father, Christopher Mara, hails from the family controlling a substantial stake in the New York Giants franchise.

The Mara family's connection to the Giants extends back generations to their great-grandfather Tim Mara, who assumed leadership of the fledgling organization in 1925.
