Krysten Ritter is a talented American actress known for her standout role as Jane Margolis in the acclaimed AMC drama series Breaking Bad, a character she revisited in the spinoff film El Camino. As of January 2026, she boasts a following of 2.2 million on Instagram.

Ritter was born on December 16, 1981, in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, to Garry Ritter and Kathi Taylor. Growing up in the rural town of Shickshinny, she spent her childhood close to her mother, stepfather, and sister, while her father resided in nearby Benton. Of German, Scottish, and English heritage, she was discovered by a modeling agent at just 15 during a modeling event at the Wyoming Valley Mall. In an interview with Philadelphia Style, she described herself during those early years as "tall, gawky, awkward, and really, really skinny." Throughout high school, she traveled to New York City and Philadelphia for modeling work, later signing with both Elite Model Management and Wilhelmina Models. Ritter ultimately relocated to New York, establishing herself as an international model, with appearances in print advertisements and television across cities like Tokyo, New York, Paris, and Milan.

Her transition into acting began when an audition for a Wendy's commercial, which Wilhelmina arranged, showcased her "outgoing and bubbly and funny" personality. Starting in 2001, she landed small roles in films and portrayed a 1950s art history student in Mona Lisa Smile in 2003. In 2006, she took part in Rajiv Joseph’s Off-Broadway play All This Intimacy at the Second Stage Theatre, and later starred in the 2011 premiere of Zach Braff’s All New People at the same venue alongside Anna Camp and Justin Bartha.

Ritter's early television roles included Gia Goodman, the daughter of Mayor Woody Goodman, in the second season of Veronica Mars, and Lucy, Rory Gilmore’s friend, in eight episodes of Gilmore Girls. She also portrayed a young Carol Rhodes in a Gossip Girl episode, serving as a backdoor pilot for a spin-off set in the 1980s. Although the spinoff was not picked up, Ritter's breakthrough came with her role in Breaking Bad's second season, as she expressed surprise at the enduring popularity of the show on People’s Couch Surfing program.

Continuing her film career, she frequently appeared in romantic comedies, playing the lead character’s best friend. After roles in What Happens in Vegas and 27 Dresses, she starred alongside Isla Fisher in Confessions of a Shopaholic and as the cynical Patty in She's Out of My League.
