Lara Stone — Biography
Lara Catherina Stone, born on December 23, 1983, is a Dutch model hailing from the small town of Mierlo. Her heritage is a blend of Dutch and British, with a Dutch mother and a British father. She is the eldest of two children, the firstborn and only daughter, making her an older sister to a younger brother. Her modeling journey began at age 14 when she was discovered in the Paris Metro during a family vacation. By age 15, she participated in the Elite Model Look competition in 1999. While she didn't win, her talent impressed Elite executives, leading to her signing with Elite Modeling Agency and the commencement of her modeling career.
In 2012, Stone secured the 8th position on Forbes' list of top-earning models. She transitioned from Elite, signing with IMG Models globally in 2006. Her runway debut occurred in January of that year when Riccardo Tisci cast her in his Givenchy couture shows in Paris. Later that year, she was an exclusive model for Calvin Klein. The year 2007 brought significant success, including a memorable Bardot-esque spread in the March issue of Vogue Paris, followed by the cover of their April edition. Carine Roitfeld, the editor of Vogue Paris, remarked, "Sometimes a girl just touches you." Cathy Horyn, fashion critic for The New York Times, labeled her the "anti-model" in her blog, "On the Runway." Horyn described Stone as deviating from the typical runway model with her distinct gapped front teeth, seemingly stunned expression, and a "Lurch walk," which the critic attributed to her small size 7 feet, as catwalk shoes are typically at least a size larger. The considerable attention surrounding Stone prompted New York Magazine to place her at number 2 on their "Top Ten Models to Watch" list for New York Fashion Week.
Stone has opened shows for notable designers including Giles Deacon, Isabel Marant, Christopher Kane, Fendi, and MaxMara, and has closed for Diesel, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, and Balmain. She also held a prestigious "semi-exclusive" contract with Prada, restricting her from walking for other designers during New York Fashion Week or in Milan before the Prada show. Her spring/summer 2008 campaigns featured Givenchy, Belstaff, Just Cavalli, and H&M. For the fall/winter 08 season, her campaigns included CK, Givenchy, Belstaff, Hugo Boss Orange, Calvin Klein Cosmetics, and Jil Sander. Stone was among the models featured on one of the fourteen covers of V magazine's September 2008 issue, which showcased prominent models from both emerging and established eras. In 2009, she was photographed with other models, including Malgosia Bela, Daria Wer
