Laura Branigan — Biography
Laura Ann Branigan was a vocalist from the United States. Her most recognizable hit, the 1982 track "Gloria," achieved platinum status and remained on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for an impressive 36 weeks, a longevity record for a female artist at the time, climbing to the second position. This song also topped the charts in Australia and Canada. Notably, Branigan's rendition of "Gloria" was a reinterpretation of the original composition by Italian musicians Giancarlo Bigazzi and Umberto Tozzi. In 1984, she achieved a number one hit in Canada and Germany with "Self Control," a song that reached number four in the U.S. and was released by Italian singer and songwriter Raf in the same year. Both "Gloria" and "Self Control" found considerable success in the United Kingdom, securing spots within the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart.
