Monique Sluyter — Biography

Monique Sluyter is a Dutch personality known for her work as a glamour model, television presenter, and fashion entrepreneur. She currently manages her own modeling agency. During the peak of soft-erotic television in the 1980s and 1990s, Monique Sluyter was a prominent figure, considered the ultimate "playmate" of her era. With her distinctive, unadorned Frisian looks, she first captivated audiences in Italy, co-hosting the suggestive program Colpo Grosso. She later achieved significant fame in Germany with Tutti Frutti, and eventually hosted her own show in the Netherlands titled Erotica, on Veronica.

Reflecting on her past television career, Sluyter describes it as a "big, warm bath" when she encounters people from that time. The Italian programs she worked on continue to be broadcast in Italy and thirty-five other countries, where she remains a celebrity, experiencing a "cult" status. Upon arriving in Rome, she is met with widespread recognition.

Sluyter's journey into television was remarkably prescient. At the age of eight, she told her mother she would be working in Italy in ten years, on television, living with models, and being globally recognized, despite never having visited Italy. Ten years later, while attending a Miss pageant in Friesland, a scout approached her for a casting for an Italian television program. Encouraged by her mother's reminder of her childhood prediction, she went to Milan. She found the experience fantastic and enjoyed her life there, though she acknowledges the demanding nature of the work. This led to her role in Colpo Grosso, which in turn paved the way for the German version, Tutti Frutti.

Following her success in Italy, Sluyter began working for Veronica. She collaborated with Alfred Lagarde on Erotica, recalling him as a "super nice man." She viewed the program as a means to discuss eroticism, likening it to a precursor of contemporary shows that tackle similar themes. While not personally attending erotic events, she extensively researched, listened to, and discussed the subject.

Contrary to public perception, Sluyter insists she was not a "wild type," likening her position in the world of eroticism to that of a bartender who doesn't drink. She clarifies that she was neither prudish nor an uninhibited nymphomaniac, viewing eroticism differently due to her upbringing surrounded by magical realism painting, with her father being a painter. She posed nude as a teenager, seeing nudity more as an artistic expression than something overtly sexual.

She admits it was not confusing to become a sex symbol, explaining that people tend to interpret things based on what they read. She distinguishes between someone solely reading Playboy and someone with a broader perspective, including her written works. In the Netherlands, her involvement with eroticism often overshadows her other achievements, such as a song featured in Quentin Tarantino's film
