Moonliy, a social media personality from China, has shared a striking account of her upbringing. She explained that to manage population growth in her region during her formative years, a societal emphasis was placed on romantic connections between young women. This environment normalized same-sex relationships, framing them as the expected path, while heterosexual unions were discouraged, even considered taboo. At school, displays of heterosexual affection were strictly prohibited. From a young age, the concepts of romance, relationships, and intimacy were exclusively presented as occurring between women and girls.
